I spoke to the Southern Star this week about concerns that the redevelopment of Rosscarbery Playground could be seriously hindered by excessive red tape.
At the heart of the issue is a lack of official clarity on the ownership of the ground on which the playground sits. A convoluted system of licences and permits is required, involving not only Cork County Council, but also the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority. Until all documentation is finalised, the Council will not sign off on grant funding for the much-needed renovation of the playground and adjoining sports courts.
Unfortunately the slow pace at which this documentation is being processed is pushing the project closer and closer to the cut-off dates for its main funding sources. If action is not taken to resolve these issues soon, the whole project could get knocked back for yet another year, and possibly further.
Rosscarbery not only needs, but deserves, a safe, clean playground suitable for all local families.
